Aaron Shafer (TBHS '05), a freshman pitcher for Wichita State, recently earned 3rd team All-American honors from Collegiate Baseball. This honor comes after Shafer was named the Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher-of-the-Year and Freshman-of-the-Year. He became the only player in MVC history to take home both awards in the same season.
Shafer picked up the win in the Shockers' 2-1 opening game victory in the Division 1 College Baseball Championships, Norman Regional. He pitched 7 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 6 hits and striking out 3 batters. Wichita State, the Region's #3 seed moves on after their defeat of #2 seed Houston to play #4 Texas Christian University June 3 at 7 pm . TCU advanced by beating #1 seed Oklahoma 6-5 in the other opening round game.
The NCAA Regionals are a double elimination event with the winner of each of the 16 regionals moving one step closer to the College World Series.
