Will Lincoln County Get a Library? [Mar 28, 2008]
If you didn't know, there is a group in Lincoln County trying to start a library for the county. They are called Lincoln County Friends of the Library and the group was created by the Lincoln County Commission in Oct. of '07 and have 5 years to get this issue of a county library tax going. In honor of that, I pulled a story from Freakanomics from last year. The article, "If Public Libraries Didn’t Exist, Could You Start One Today?", explores how funny it is that we have these companies complaining about copyright issues, yet we have this great thing called the library system.

T-roy B-log Upgrades [Dec 20, 2006]
Yesterday, Google took the beta tag off the new version of Blogger and I took the opportunity to upgrade the T-roy B-log to the new version. Most of the changes are on my end, but there is one thing that is an awesome tool for the readers of this blog; tags. At the bottom of each post, you will see the labels. Tobacco Tax Back on Nov. 7 Ballot [Sep 11, 2006]

A judge in Cole County today reversed an earlier rulling and put a tobacco tax increase proposal on the Nov. 7th ballot in Missouri. If passed, the tax on cigarettes would go from 17 cents per pack to 97 cents per pack. Other tobacco products would see a major tax increase as well.
People-who-do-this-sorta-thing-for-a-living say project the tax to bring in $351 million per year to be used on anti-smoking campaigns and the like.
Personally, I am in favor of increasing the tax on tobacco products because I hate second-hand smoke. I know that's not the best reason to be in favor of the tax increase, but it's how I think. People who smoke 2-3 packs a week need to step back to look at just how much they are spending, not to mention the harm they are inflicting on others.
