Restaurant Review: Monty's BBQ [Jun 7, 2007]
Monty's BBQ is a Troy fixture on South Lincoln Drive. If there is a one item that goes hand in hand with living in Troy, it's the MontyBurger. I am quite fond of the $1 hotdogs. They are good and. . .well. . only a dollar. I have also heard that the chicken is good although I haven't tried it. There isn't all that much to write about a BBQ stand, the food really speaks for itself. If you taste for BBQ, go to Monty's stand.

Restaurant Review: Zadock's
***I dined at the newest restaurant in Troy shortly after it opened, but I am just now posting my review.***
I had a Rueben sandwich and a bowl of chicken and dumpling soup. I liked the fact that with my sandwich I could add a bowl of soup for only a dollar, which could possibly be that I am a sucker for things that are a dollar. The Rueben itself was good except for the fact that there was no 1000 island dressing on the sandwich. I informed the host of the lack of 1000 island when I went to pay and she checked on it and said that it was a miscommunication between the server and the kitchen. Apparently, the sandwich is supposed to be served with a side of 1000 island dressing.
Personally, I would prefer that the server ask when you order if you would like the dressing on the side or on the sandwich. The soup was alright. I don't really have chicken and dumplings a lot so I can't really critique it.
The prices are about average for a family-style restaurant, I think I spent about $10 for the soup, sandwich and drink. The other items on the menu all seemed to be priced pretty average. I didn't really see anything on the menu that stood out.
If you are curious about why the restaurant name sounds so ethnic it is because Zadock Woods was one of the two men behind Wood's Fort in 1799. I overheard a waitress say that when the restaurant owners went to the City, they were encouraged to use the name, Zadock's. The layout of the restaurant is nice with a fireplace in the middle of the dining area and tables along the wall that faces Hwy 47. Here's a link to the story of the Woods family.
Overall, I think the restaurant wasn't really anything to write home about. I haven't dined at Landmark lately, but I would imagine the two are a lot alike. Most of the things I saw on the menu seemed pretty plain. The restaurant needs more things and dishes to distinguish itself.

I have dined at Rivers Edge pizza off of Hwy 47 once and I don't know if I will go back again. I didn't really like the pizza. This was a few months ago so, maybe they got better. Until I either find a sweet coupon or they lower their prices, I don't plan on going back.

King Edward's Fried Chicken [Mar 5, 2007]
The newest restaurant in Troy is the newest location for King Edward's Fried Chicken, which has been on South Duchesne in St. Charles since 1966. Mike and Tina Hickman have owned the St. Charles location since 1999 and own the location in Troy. In St. Charles, the restaurant sells nearly 10,000 pieces of chicken a week and 200 pounds of catfish. King Edward's brings in fresh white-skinned chicken daily before cutting, breading, and frying it themselves.
I stopped in at King Edward's over the weekend after hearing about it earlier in the day. It felt alot like walking into the Soup Nazi's place on an episode of Seinfeld. It was tough deciding amongst all the glorious fried goodies, including catfish, cod, shrimp, froglegs, clam strips and salmon in addition to chicken. I finally went with the chicken strips and fries for $5.39. King Edward's offers a vast menu of side items including red beans and rice, corn on the cob, and mashed potatoes.
The breading was light and the strips were excellent. Ive never tasted so much chicken rather than breading. The strips were even good cold the next day, which is an excellent attribute. I will definitely be stopping back in soon. I might try the lunch special of 4 mixed pieces of fried chicken, fries and a drink for $4.97, mainly because it sounds like such a sweet deal.

M's Tea House Now Open [Sep 7, 2006]

Deal Alert--Krumbly Burger [Jul 24, 2006]
Krumbly Burger is really pushing their new $1 mexican menu. A new ad touting the $1 menu includes a Buy One, Get One offer. So really, it's a $.50 menu. For $.50 each, try a couple items off the menu. I imagine you'll like them and will be willing to pay $1 for them in the future.

Try the Little Dipper ASAP [Jul 6, 2006]
The restaurant of the moment is the Little Dipper, the ice cream shop off Main in Downtown Troy. The Wren's bought the store prior to this summer and have their hands full as business is booming. Prices are relatively cheap compared to Dairy Queen or STL Pizza and Custard. For two scoops of White Chocolate and Strawberry ice cream in a cake cone I paid $2.85 before tax. Two scoops in a waffle cone will run about $.30-$.40 more.
While savoring my ice cream, I found myself thinking I should have just gone with the one scoop as the scoops were way generous. I promptly kicked myself for such a stupid thought and went back to the delicious ice cream. The Little Dipper has a wide variety of ice cream, each of which you can have in a sugar cone, cake cone, waffle cone, or cup. The shop also serves nachos, hot dogs, soft drinks, and a rich orange gelato.
Try Brittany's Chunkie Monkie something or other, you won't be dissapointed if you like ice cream and brownies. If you don't like ice cream and brownies, you should. . .well. . . you should start so you can try this delicious concoction. Also I am a fan of the strawberry cheesecake ice cream.
Frequent the Little Dipper ASAP and get service with a smile from Ms. Wren or her daughter, Jessi. These are two ladies who you know aren't doin this just for the paycheck.

Monty's BBQ has moved out of its gas station home and back into the catering wagon across the street.
Their former landlord has apparently started a BBQ business in the same place that Monty's once occupied. Don't be fooled, it aint Monty's. Go across the street and see Monty's crew for authentic Monty's BBQ. Don't blame Monty for the makeshift walls around his BBQ pit either, that can be blamed on a "higher power".
Monty's also has new hours, Tues-Sat 10 am-6 pm during the day. Be sure to stop by this summer so you can get the full Monty's experience with most of the family working.
