Troy Man Causes National Stir [Jun 15, 2006]
You may have caught something recently in the news about Southern Baptists and public schools. Did you know that a man from Troy, MO is a driving force behind it?
Here's the story
Roger Moran of Troy proposed what he called an "exit strategy" along with Bruce Shortt to the Southern Baptist Convention. Moran, who sits on the SBC executive committee and is a leading voice of the organization, proposed his plan to the SBC's resolution committee, but the proposal died in the committee when it delcined to pass the resolution on to the delegates at the Annual Meeting in Greensboro, N.C.
The plan called on the general membership to pull children out of the public schools in favor of home schooling or private schooling. It came about due the members being unsatisfied with the way public schools are dealing with the topics of homosexuality, "creative design" and religion in schools.
In denying to put the resolution forward, the committee decided to encourage the 16.2 million Southern Baptists to ``engage the culture of our public school systems" by exerting ``godly influence," including standing for election to local school boards.
