Matt Blunt's New Initiative [Jun 20, 2006]
Missouri Governor Matt Blunt unveiled his new initiative on Monday in Columbia, MO and it appears to be just what the doctor ordered for Troy.
Blunt's plan, called he Downtown Revitalization Economic Assistance for Missouri plan or DREAM, would help 10 communities a year in Missouri secure planning and funding to revitalize its downtown areas. One of the reasons Blunt held the news conference in Columbia was because its downtown, called "The District", is a prime example of what his plan attempts to accomplish. The District features over 70 bars and restaurants and 110 retail shops in addition to hosts live performances and festivals. The plan seeks to help towns where their resources don't allow for the advanced planning that is needed to secure funding. Towns must apply by Aug 1 to be considered for one of the 10 communities in the first year of the initiative.

I was just thinking the other day about ways for Troy to enhance its downtown area. Main Street features historic builidngs and a few shops and bars, but lacks a real draw in my opinion. As one of the fastest growing areas in Missouri, Troy would be a prime candidate for this plan. Contact Kerry Klump, the Executive Director of the Troy chamber of Commerce at kerry@troyonthemove.com or Mayor Kemper at pmkemper@nothnbut.net and encourage Troy to apply
